A Bronze Buddha found in a Harpenden Garden

Can anyone help, please?

By Nuala Joyce

I was born at home in 1968 in Tennyson Road, Harpenden. Shortly before my birth, my mother was doing some gardening and dug up a very strange, solid bronze (I think, though could be brass!), very heavy, small Buddha, monk-type figure. I have no idea of what exactly it is. I have treasured it for 46 years.

My parents have since passed away. I would like to know if anyone has ever seen one like this before - or might know what it is?  I've been curious for years and I researched it, but to no avail. It may be a collectors item? Also I would like to know what was built on the grounds before our house.

Ed. We have been trying to contact Nuala by email, as she had promised to add a photo of the Buddha. As for the land which was developed as Tennyson Road in the 1880s/1890s, this was farmland, cut through by the railway line in the 1860s. We hope Nuala will be able to add the photos and more information, and that readers will be able to help identify the mystery object.
