Ian Taylor came to Harpenden on 5 December 2015 to hand over two paintings by Ernest Heasman featuring the White Horse pub, where his grandfather was landlord from 1917 to 1929. Ian has written about his relatives around Hatching Green.
Heasman was a regular at the pub, just across from East Common where he lived. He painted many local scenes, including several around Hatching Green, one of which was reproduced as a postcard.
The White Horse invited representatives of the local History Society to the official presentation and entertained them to lunch. Later in the afternoon Ian and Hazel Taylor visited the Society's exhibition: "Harpenden in Winter".
