The Cock Pond and the Old Cock Pub, c1880s

It is not known when it was formed to collect rainwater that gathered in Harpenden’s Dry Valley, but it features in many photos as a watering place for sheep, ducks, cows.  It became a matter of controversy and was finally drained in 1928 and grassed over. The sensory garden is now there.
