A glimpse of Harpenden Museum at the Seniors' Fair

4 April 2023

Window on Harpenden shops in times past

The 2023 Seniors’ Fair, held for the second time at the Eric Morecambe Hall on Tuesday, 4 April drew in a large crowd to visit the stalls of many Harpenden voluntary groups ranging from from the Arts Club, Computer Friendly, U3A, to the United Nations Association. Harpenden Local History Society attracted many visitors with photos of Harpenden long gone, and the opportunity for a preview of Harpenden Museum, guided by David and Janet Keen.

The shop window, facing out from the Museum, is a taster of things to come.

Also featured was the most recent acquisitions – three wood sculptures by Basil Kassanis: Madonna (1871, Agrippina (1975) and Marcianna (1977) – donated by David Burnett.

Within the Museum, display cabinets will be filled with varying selections from our collection, but already in its dedicated cabinet is the ensign of HMS Harpenden (1918), which once hung in St Nicholas Church
